Biker Boyz

2/07/03 - Review

Finally, Hollywood has got themselves in gear by a making another Fast and the Furious movie.  I was surprised that it took them two years to do it though.  They probably should have waited a little longer and made a better movie then this motorcycle happy movie, Biker Boyz.  Much like the Fast and the Furious, there is an underground nation of racing fanatics who take to the streets to race crotch rockets.  Their objective is to dethrone the self proclaimed “King of Cali,” Smoke, played by Laurence Fishburne.  Kid, played by Derek Luke has always wanted to get into “the set” and race motorcycles.  His father told him he was not ready but when he died during a race, things changed.  Kid put all of his attention on taking out Smoke, who his dad worked for as a mechanic.  He created is own gang, called the “Biker Boyz” and they soon started to gain attention in the community.   As Kid pushes on towards the next level, he finds out that Smoke is his real dad.  But this does not sidetrack him as he continues toward his goal, which in the end will make both fathers proud.

This movie is almost like the Fast and the Furious but now there are crotch rockets and not rice burners.  Biker Boyz does not contain any undercover cops or behind the scenes hijackings.  It does have some pretty cool motorcycles but really all I can say is that this movie is a piece of crap.  For two hours, I was bored out of my mind.  I could not wait to get the hell out of the theater.  The story is very plain with no plot twists or anything that would make the movie far less predictable.   It does have a good cast as there were a lot of people who are pretty well known.  Even Kid Rock was in it.  They were all fine, but they still couldn't help the movie.  Why would Fishburne pick a movie like this to make?  He should have just relaxed until The Matrix sequels are released later this year.  Everything about the movie is bad and boring as hell, but I have to give it everything for the motorcycles.  They looked cool but that was about it.  The races sucked as I could care less who won.  Owell, I guess I wasted seven bucks.  Do yourself a favor and keep your money.
