EXTERIOR: OUTSIDE, IN FRONT OF A RESTAURANT

The camera moves from the top of the building and pans down until it centers on the name of the restaurant.  It is a beautiful restaurant where all the couples go to.  The outside of the restaurant has a bunch of windows and through them we can see several tables with people sitting at them.  The camera pans through all of the people that are sitting at the tables. Cut to inside

INTERIOR: RESTURANT, NIGHT

It seems that many of the patrons of left for the night as it is not that busy.  The camera pans around the Hostess area and then into the main dining room. In the middle of the room there is a beautiful young woman in a red dress.  The camera comes in on her from the left side as it turns and goes right in front of her.  She has a quiet look of patience on her face as she sits by herself at the table.  Just then a look of relief comes across her face as she looks up.  Camera turns to her side and we see a sharp dressed man entering the dining room with a dozen roses in his hands.  He comes over to the table, bends down, and the two exchange kisses for a couple of seconds. 

JOHN
(HE HANDS HER THE ROSES) Happy anniversary baby.  (He turns and takes his seat. 

Kristin
Thanks.  How was your day?

John
It was hell (A sigh of relief as he talks) Old man Winters had us go back and double check all of the records for the past year. 

Kristin
He is a real pain in the ass

John
I would not be where I am at now if it wasn’t for him. 

Kristin
I know, you’re a great trial lawyer

John
Sorry I’m late

Kristin
Forget about it, you will make up for it later

The waiter comes over to the table

Waiter
Can I take your order?
The scene dissolves and the scene goes dark. 

EXTERIOR: HOUSE, NIGHT

Their car pulls up to a nice sized house, a house that is bigger and nicer than most houses that young couples live in. John gets out of the car and walks over to the passenger side to help out Kristin.  She gets out and John picks her up and carries her into the house. 

INTERIOR: HOUSE, NIGHT

John comes walking into the bedroom and sits down on the bed and then proceeds to lay back.  A noise of a door opening is heard coming from the right and the camera pans over in that direction.  John looks up and sees Kristin come out in a beautiful nightgown.  She has a very happy look on her face.  She comes over to the bed and stands in front of John. She bends down and puts her hands around his shoulders and picks him up.

Kristin
I love you

John
I love you too

Kristin proceeds to kiss John on his lips and then his forward.  She pulls back for a second.

Kristin
I made a wise choice in marrying you

John
I made one too by asking

They bother hug and then John picks her up and lays her behind him.  He then lies down on top of her and starts to kiss her.  He gets up and takes his shirt off, and then lays back down kissing her. The scene fades out

INTERIOR: KITCHEN, MORNING

The camera opens in the kitchen where John is standing on the side of the counter reading the paper.  He has a cup of coffee in his other hand and he takes frequent sips.  He makes little comments to himself after reading some of the paper.  As he continues about his morning routing, we see two hands slowly come around his stomach.  He drops the paper and slowly looks over his shoulder.  Kristin has rested the side of her face on the middle of his back.  He puts down his coffee and caresses her hands. 

John
Good morning

Kristin
(She is very well rested, but showing signs of tiredness) Morning, last night was amazing

John
Yea I slept well, how bout you?

Kristin
(She hits him lightly, but it was sincere)
 You will always be a funny guy

John
What can I say? (He looks down at his watch) Oh, I have to go. (He kisses her on the lips.)  I will see you later

Kristin
You bet your ass you will

John walks away but then Kristin pulls him back for one last kiss

John
See-ya

He walks over to the door and before he leaves, he turns back and says
I love you

Kristin
I know

He walks out the door and the camera comes back to Kristin who pours a glass of orange juice and gazes out through the front window as John drives off.  The scene ends. 

INTERIOR: SUPERMARKET, DAY

The camera comes to a close up of a pregnancy test.  From there it slowly pans towards her where it stops as she is looking at.  She grabs it, reads the back of it, and then puts in her bag.  She displays a smile on her face as she places it into the bag.  The camera stays still but turns as she continues to walk down the aisle.  Cut to checkout line.

Kristin comes to the line with her groceries and places them on the belt.  The lady that is working the checkout line notices the pregnancy kit and asks her a question.

Cashier
Oh, well good luck to you.

Kristin
Thanks.  I have my fingers crossed.

Cashier
I remember the first my husband and I had a kid.  (She stops to think) Oh to be young again

Kristin
Yes maam.

Cut to outside of the supermarket

EXTERIOR: SUPERMARKET, DAY

Kristin walks out of the door with her arms full of groceries.  She has one bag in each hand.  As she walks across the side walk, a young kid is seen coming down the sidewalk on a BMX bike.  He is going pretty fast as he comes closer to her.  He goes onto the road and then jumps back on the sidewalk.  This causes Kristin to look to her left.  But it is too late.  The biker nearly collides right into Kristin but instead he only hits the groceries she was carrying with his shoulder.  The hit was strong enough to cause her to drop the bags.  As she looks up she sees the biker ride off down the sidewalk.  He is laughing. 

Kristin
Asshole

She bends down and picks up her groceries.  All of the commotion has her all worked up.  She has forgotten about the road in front of her.  She is still shaken up but she turns and takes one step onto the road.  A huge noise comes from her left.  It is a truck barreling down the road.  She turns to her left but there is nothing she can do.  She thinks that she is a goner but out of nowhere, a man comes running in.  He lunges for her and throws her back onto the sidewalk.  The truck goes zooming off down the road.  She looks up and sees a man looking down on her.

Man
Are you okay?

Kristin
I think so… (A slight pause) You saved my life.  Thank you

Man
It was nothing

Kristin
No, I could have been squashed by that truck.

Man
Don’t mention it.

He stands up and reaches down to help us Kristin.  She dusts her self off.  As she is regaining her composure, the man picks up her groceries and puts them back into the bag.  He pauses when he picks up the pregnancy checker.

Man
There you go (He hands her the groceries)

Kristin
Thank you so much

Man
Sure, well, have a good day (He turns and starts to walk away)

Kristin
Wait a second (She walks over to the man)

You just saved my life; do you want to get some coffee or something?

Man
(Hesitating) Sure

Kristin
Great let me put my groceries in my car

She walks over to her car and puts the groceries in the trunk.  She then turns around and faces the man.

Kristin
I’m Kristin

Man
I’m Dave.

Kristin
Come on, let’s go to the place on the corner over there.

Man
Okay

The two walk over to the coffee house.  Cut to inside of coffee house   

INTERIOR: COFFEE SHOP, DAY

The camera opens up in the restaurant to see a nice old lady behind the counter.  She is getting a cup of coffee for an elderly man.  The camera pans over and sees Kristin and Dave sitting against the wall quietly talking.  The camera moves to the front of the table where they are sitting at. 

Kristin
So where are from originally?

Dave
Chicago

Kristin
Chicago?  How did you wind up in the small town of State College?

Dave
(He sighs) I got tired of the city life.  I wanted to come to a small town.  There was a job opening here so I took it. 

Kristin
Got a wife, girlfriend

Dave
(He shakes his head slowly) Unfortunately, no.  But I am always looking for a future ex-girlfriend.  (He laughs)

Kristin
(Laughing) Yea,. What do you do?

Dave
I am a systems analyst for the University. 

Kristin
Oh, so you work with computers

Dave
Yes, I have been there for about 5 years now. So how bout you?

Kristin
(She holds up her hand with the ring on it) Just had my one year anniversary

Dave
|That’s great

Kristin
Yea, my husband is great.  You will have to meet him, the guy that saved my life.

Dave
Sure, but I do not want to intrude

Kristin
Don’t worry, you won’t.  All of our friends left town so we don’t really meet new people.  I guess we met by fate then

Dave
I guess so (He has a snide smirk on his face)

They continue drinking their coffees.  The camera cuts to the outside of the restaurant, where we see the two of them sitting at the table.  The scene ends. 

EXTERIOR: COFFEE SHOP, DAY

Kristin and Dave are standing at her car talking.  They are seen from a distance but the camera then cuts to close-ups. 

Kristin
 So it was really nice meeting you Dave.

Dave
And you Kristin

The two of them shake hands as they are smiling

Kristin
Dave, why don’t you give me your number so we can get together sometime?

Dave
But you are married.

Kristin
(Laughing) It is not like a date. My husband and I, you, a date maybe?

Dave
Okay, sounds good

Kristin
Alright, Talk to you later.  Bye

Dave
Have a good day

Kristin gets in her car and proceeds to put the seatbelt over her body.  She turns on the car and backs up and as she drives away she turns to Dave, smiles and waves goodbye.  He does the same.  The camera cuts to Kristin and John’s home.

INTERIOR: HOUSE, DAY

The camera opens up in the bedroom and pans around until it stops as it focuses in on the opened pregnancy test kit on the bed.  From there, the camera goes into the bathroom where Kristin is sitting on the toilet gazing straight forward.  She looks over at the pregnancy test kit on the sink counter.  She then gets up and goes over to it and stands in front of it.  She stares at herself in the mirror and then closes her eyes as if she is wishing.  She opens her eyes back up and looks down and sees two blue lines.  She picks up the kit and a smile comes across her face.  She goes over to the bed and lays down.  She closes her eyes and falls asleep. 

INTERIOR: HOUSE, NIGHT

The camera comes in on spaghetti sauce and angel hair pasta cooking on top of the stove.  The camera then pans around and Kristin is tossing some salad. The door to the house opens and in comes John.  He sets his briefcase on the chair and comes over and gives Kristin a big kiss.

Kristin
What kind of day did you have?

John
Great now that it is over

Kristin
That good huh?

John
(Sighs) Yeah

He goes over to the bathroom as Kristin comes over to set up the table.  After she finishes with the table she starts to carry over the food.  John comes over and sits down as does Kristin.  They say grace and begin their dinner.

John
Oh, this is great honey.  Angel Hair is my favorite.

Kristin
Thanks, I knew you would like it

A slight pause as they continue to eat their dinner.

Kristin
So I met a nice guy today

John
(Chokes, and then coughs because he is caught off guard.  He takes a sip of his water)
You met a guy?

Kristin
Yea, he saved my life

John
Oh, thank God, I though you were leaving me. (Laughs) He saved your life?

Kristin
Yes, I almost got hit my car after I left the grocery story.  Some kid on a bike hit my groceries and I dropped them and in the process, forgot about the road next to me. 

John nods in interest

Kristin
A gentleman named Dave came out of nowhere to get me out of the way of the truck.  It was a close one

John
I am glad he did, because I would miss you too much

Kristin
Oh, you are so sweet. 

John
So who is this guy, do I get to meet him?

Kristin
Sure, we had coffee after the fact and I learned a lot about him.  I have his number so we can get together with him sometime.

John
Set it up

He gets up and walks over to her and gives her a kiss and then leaves the room.  Kristin looks as he leaves the room and then looks down at her stomach, knowing that she will have to tell him later about the news of a new family member on the way.  The scene ends as she clears the table.    

INTERIOR: HOUSE, NIGHT

Kristin and John are sitting on the couch together watching a movie on the Television.  All of the lights are off except for the window lights and the occasional flicker coming from the TV.  Kristin is laying down on her back and leaning on John who is in an upright position. 

Kristin
John.....

John
What (He is fixated on the television)

Kristin
There is something I need to tell you

John
What is it?

Kristin
Well, I don’t really know how to say this but (She is flustered) 

John
(He mutes the TV)  Kristin what?

Kristin
I’m pregnant

John
(Pauses for a minute)  That’s terrific (He turns her around towards him) that’s great news

Kristin
Really? (A sigh of relief comes across her face) I thought you would be upset

John
No, why would I be upset? I’m happy (He kisses her on the forehead)

Kristin
I want a boy

John
Me too, but I would be happy with either. 

Kristin
Do you want me to have a gender check when the time is right?

John
No, it will be a better surprise. 

Kristin
(She crawls closer to John) I love you (She kisses him) The scene fades.

INTERIOR: HOUSE, DAY

Kristin comes down the steps and walks to the kitchen.  She walks over to the counter and picks up the cordless phone. She then turns around and walks over to the refrigerator and grabs a stick it from the door.  The camera zooms in on the stick it to display John’s phone number.  She dials the phone number and leans back against the counter.

INTERIOR: OFFICE, DAY

The camera moves in a straight line from the right to the left as it comes in on John sitting at his desk.  He is typing something on his keyboard.  He is sitting straight up with good posture.  The camera switches to the right side of him, right underneath his head.  He has a perturbed look on his face.  The phone rings.  He stops what he is doing and looks to the right.  He stares at the phone for about three rings, and then he picks it up. 

Dave
Hello, this is Dave

Kristin
Hi Dave.  Its Kristin, how is it going?

Dave
Oh, hi Kristin (Real Happy to hear her)

Kristin
How is work?

Dave
Man, I have been pulling my hair out all day long. I cannot wait till this day is over

Kristin
Sounds like someone is having fun.  (She laughs)

Dave
Yea right

Kristin
Anyway, the reason I was calling was to see if you wanted to come out with us on Friday night

Dave
Us?

Kristin
Yes, myself and my husband, John

Dave
(Hesitates) Sure I will go

Kristin
Great, we are going to be at Night Owl at 8:00.  Meet us there

Dave
Alright, see-you on Friday

Kristin
See-ya.

Dave
Bye

Dave hangs up the phone and turns back to his monitor.  From around the corner of his cube comes another person.  He walks in and just stands there staring at Dave.  Dave ignores him at first but then turns around real slowly.

Dave
Yes, what can I help you with (Smug)

Steve
Ever since you guys applied that upgrade I haven’t been able to get email on my computer

Dave
Really? (Perturbed that he said that)

Steve
Yes, it is really important that I get these emails that the vendors are sending me.

Dave
Show me

He gets up and walks out of his cube with Steve.  The scene cuts to them walking down the hall.  Steve walks hurriedly in the lead as Dave follows.  They arrive at the cube and Steve sits down at the chair and starts working the mouse.

Steve
See what I mean, it worked until this morning

Dave
Let me have seat

Dave sits down in chair as Steve stands impatiently behind him looking over his shoulder.  Dave takes notice to this and gives an annoyed look.  He is there for less than a minute when he fixes the problem.  He stands up and walks away.

Steve
Well? Where are you going?

Dave
It’s fixed

Steve
What was it

Dave
The server setting was wrong

Steve
I will never understand you people

The camera is in front of Dave as he walks away and he gives a smile as Steve makes the last statement.  The scene ends as Dave walks into the camera.

EXTERIOR: RESTAURANT, NIGHT

It is a brilliant clear night sky with a full moon off to the right of the frame.  The camera pans from the sky to the front of a restaurant.  The restaurant is a typical college crowd and up style with bright lights and inviting signs.  The Night Owl it is called. The entrance is bustling with patrons as they continue to go in, with not many coming out.  Cut to inside

INTERIOR: RESTAURANT, NIGHT

We get a glimpse of the indoor environment as the camera does a 360.  The patrons that have gathered are in their mid twenties and up.  The décor is new in age probably because the restaurant opened up a few months ago.  There are big screen TV’s, sports memorabilia, pool tables and much more.  Everybody is in casual dress as well as the employees even though they still are wearing an official uniform.  It is one big open place with a bar in the back and many tables in the front.  There are also couches and stools by the sides along the walls.  It looks like everybody there is having a good time since the place is filled with conversations.  The camera follows a waitress who has a tray with two drinks on it.  She carries it over to a table where Kristin and John are sitting. 

Waitress
Here is your fuzzy naval (she sets it in front of Kristin)
And a lager for the sir

Kristin
Thank you

John
And thank you Mindy, you have outdone yourself

Mindy
Thanks

She walks away and Kristin gives her the evil look and then turns to John

John
What

Kristin
You know what (Smiling)

John
Oh, that was nothing

Kristin
I saw the way you talked to her

John
Yea, well, I am not having a baby with her (He kisses uncontrollably on the back of her neck)

Kristin
(Giggling because she is ticklish)  Okay, okay

John
(Takes a drink of his beer)
So when is your friend going to get here?

Kristin
(She looks down at her watch) Dave should be here any minute now.

Cut to outside

 

EXTERIOR: RESTAURANT, NIGHT

 

From the street pulls in a dark colored SUV.  He drives around the side of the restaurant and parks vehicle.  Camera cuts to the inside of the vehicle as we get a close up of Dave’s eye looking into the rear-view mirror.  He is checking to make sure if he looks okay, by fixing his hair.  He then opens up the door to the vehicle and proceeds to get out.  He quietly walks over to the front of the restaurant and up the steps.  When he gets to the top, he stops and opens the door for a young couple, and then proceeds to walk in. 

INTERIOR: RESTAURANT, NIGHT

 

Dave walks to the entrance of the “restaurant” area and stops to look around.  He looks around the whole place but he cannot find anybody.  He starts to walk over to the bar in the corner.  There are people everywhere so he tries to squeeze in between everybody.  That coupled with the fact that there are waitresses everywhere carrying drinks and food orders hinders his progress.  Finally, after what seems like an eternity, he makes it over to the bar. He waits patiently for the bartender to serve him.

 

Bartender
What can I get for you (he points at him)

Dave
Ahh, how about a lager?

The bartender goes over to the tap and starts to fill up the glass.  Dave turns his back to the bar as he tries to locate Kristin and her husband.  He looks down at his watch which reads 7:58 P.M.  He turns back to the bar.  The bartender walks over with the glass of beer and sets it on the bar.

Bartender
Okay buddy that's four bucks

Dave pulls out his wallet and gives the bartender a five spot. 

Dave
Thanks

He turns around and takes a sip of his beer. He continues to look around but he sees nothing.  Cut to John and Kristin’s table.

John
So when do you want to tell your parents about the baby?

Kristin
The next time we see them I guess

John
Sounds good to me honey

Kristin holds up her drink and John does the same.  They perform the "cheers" ritual and take a sip.  As Kristin takes the glass away from her mouth she jumps with a surprise look. 

 

Kristin
Oh, there’s Dave.

John
Where?

 

Kristin
Over there by the bar 

The camera looks over at the bar at John turning towards the bar.   

Kristin
I am going to go get him

John
Alright

Kristin puts her glass down and gets up from the table.  She walks hurriedly over the bar as she dodges the people and the staff.  When she gets to the bar she sees that Dave has his back to her.  She walks over and softly taps him on his shoulder.  Dave jumps but then proceeds to turn around.

Dave
Oh, Hi Kristin (a smile comes across her face)

Kristin
Hey Dave.  How are you? 

Dave
Not bad, how bout yourself?

Kristin
Good.  Have you been here long?

Dave
No, about five minutes. I walked around the place but I did not see you

Kristin
Were nestled in at the table over there (She points back to her table) Come on, I will show you the way to our table.

Kristin leads the way as they walk over to the table.  When they get there Kristin proceeds with the introduction.

Kristin
John this is Dave

Dave
This is my husband John

John stands up and shakes the hand of Dave.  Dave has a happy yet troubled look on his face as he shakes the hand of John. It’s as if he resents the fact that John is married to a beautiful woman such as Kristin.

John
Have a seat Dave

Dave
Thanks

Dave waits until Kristin sits down and then he proceeds to take his seat.

John
So Dave, Kristin tells me that you pulled her out of the way of a speeding truck.  I thank you greatly for that. (He leans over and kisses Kristin)

Dave
(He sees them kissing and hesitates) It was nothing, really

John
Nah, she might not be here right now if it wasn’t for you

There is a long pause

Kristin
Dave works up at the University

Dave
Is that right? 

Dave
Yes, I am a systems analyst in the Business College.  What about you?

John
I am a lawyer at Winters and Smith Associates. 

Kristin
He is the best lawyer that they have, isn’t that right dear?

John
Oh stop it, everybody is good. 

She looks at him as if he is wrong

John
Okay, well I guess I am good, let’s leave it at that. 

Dave
So tell me, how did you guys meet?

John
Well, actually (He is interrupted by Kristin)

Kristin
(Happily tells the story)  It was freshmen year in College during our Art class.  I noticed John sitting by himself in the back of the classroom.  Every once in while we would make eye contact but he would always look away because he was embarrassed.

John
I was not embarrassed

Kristin
Oh, you so were

John
But...

Kristin
Anyway, I saw him at a Frat party one night while I was there with my friends.  He was having a drink with one of his friends in the corner.  His friend came over and starting talking to my friend but he still stayed over there by himself.  So, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

John
I’m glad you did

Kristin
(Laughing) Yes I did.  I started talking to him.  He was so nervous that he dropped his bottle of beer.  Long story short, we started dating and we have been together ever since.

Dave
Wow, touching

Kristin
(Laughing) He’s my cutie (She leans over and gives John a hug)

John
So Dave, what about you?  Any special somebody?

Dave
Not really.  I dated a girl for a couple years about five years ago.  Didn’t work out

John
Not even a date?

Dave
Nope.  I had one a while ago but nothing developed.

John
Kristin, don’t you know some single women?

Kristin
Yes I do, I would love to set you up Dave

Dave
That is not necessary

John
It’s the least we can do. 

Kristin
Yes, there is a girl I work with.  Her name is Amanda.  She is very cute and very funny. You would like her

Dave
Okay

The waitress comes over to the table. 

Mandy
I see the third member of your party is here.  Do you need another minute or are you ready to order?

John
You ready honey

Kristin
Yes

John
Dave?

Dave
You guys go ahead while I look at the menu

The scene ends as they are ordering their dinner. 

EXTERIOR: RESTAURANT, NIGHT

There is a close-up of the door to the restaurant.  The door swings open and Dave is there holding the door as Kristin and John walk through the exit. 

Kristin
Thank you

Dave
(He lets go of the door) Sure

He continues to walk behind the two of them and over to their cars.  When they get over to their car, the three of them stop.

Dave
Thanks for inviting me out tonight. I had a good time.

Kristin
It was our pleasure

John
Yes we will have to do it again

Dave
I would like that

John
Hey, do you have plans tomorrow?

Dave
Nothing that I can remember

John
Do you play golf?

Kristin
Oh here we go (She gives a tired sigh)

John
What?

Dave
Actually I do

John
I have a tee time at 8:15 for a foursome but one cannot make it.  Were looking for a fourth.  You interested?

Dave
Yeah, that would be great

John
Good, I will see you at Free Stone.  Do you know where it is?

Dave
That is the new course off of the mountain right?

John
Yep.  I will be there at 7:45

Dave
Great.  Thanks

Kristin
O golly, the testosterone will be flying high tomorrow. (She turns to Dave) Don’t let them get to you. (Jokingly)

Dave
(Laughing) Thanks, I will be fine.  I’ll see you guys later.  Thanks again for inviting me out

Dave leaves the two and walks over to his car.  Cut back to Kristin and John who are getting in their black Lexus SUV.  The vehicle starts and the lights come on.  They back up and then pull out of the parking lot and turn right on to the main road. Cut to inside of Lexus.

INTERIOR: LEXUS, NIGHT

John and Kristin are in the car driving down the road.  The radio is playing some soft rock like Creed or Nickelback.  There are a lot of cars on the road as we can see as the camera looks straight forward. The camera then moves to John’s angle from the dashboard.

John
He seems like a nice guy

Kristin
Yea he is. 

John
I wonder how good of a golfer he is

Kristin
You’ll find that out tomorrow dear.

John
He will get to see the master of golf

Kristin
Sure dear

John
I am serious.  I take after Tiger Woods

Kristin
Maybe on the computer, but even there I beat you (Laughs)

John
I let you win

Kristin
Rematch when we get home.

John
You’re on.  Ha ha you are so going down

Kristin
We’ll see

The music comes up louder now as they continue to drive down the road.  The camera goes black 

EXTERIOR: GOLF COURSE, DAY

It is a beautiful day outside as there is but one cloud in the sky.  People are practicing on the putting and chipping green.  In the distance, you can see people driving balls from the driving range stall.  John’s black Lexus pulls into a spot underneath a tree, away from the other cars.  He gets out of the car and proceeds to stretch.  He then walks behind the vehicle and pops the hatch to the trunk.  Out comes a blue golf back that John sets on the ground. The legs automatically open up as he sets it down.  John grabs for his golf shoes and sits down in the trunk and puts them on.  This must be the busy time because cars are pulling in all around him.  Chatter is heard coming from the cars in front of him as well as the people that are hauling their clubs to the clubhouse.  An occasional golfer will greet John as he does in return.  He closes the trunk and puts the clubs on his back.  He follows everybody else up to the green.  As he is walking the camera switches to his point of view and we see Dave on the practice green.

John
Hey Dave (He yells for him)

Dave looks up from his put and waves to him.  We watch John walk up to Dave from a lowered position as Dave putts and drains the cup from 20 feet. 

John
Nice shot!

Dave
Thanks

John
What’s up?

Dave
Just a little practice, I haven’t played in a while

John
Your rust doesn’t show

Dave
Where are the other guys?

John
(He looks down at his watch) Any minute now

John gets some balls out and starts to practice.

EXTERIOR: DAY, FIRST TEE

There is a close up of John and his two friends as they sit in the golf carts.  They are quietly talking amongst themselves.  They are not really paying that much attention to Dave who is getting ready to tee off.  Dave is taking his time on the tee as he surveys the shot.  He then takes his stance and crushes a huge drive.  He looks back at the guys on the carts with a smile on his face, but they are not looking at him.  He walks back to where the other guys are, puts his driver in the bag and takes his seat. 

Dave
You’re up John

John
(Turns away from the other two guys) Alright

As he walking up to the green he makes a smart comment

John
Let me show you fellas how it is done

He takes a big swing and hits the ball about 1 yards shorter of Dave’s ball

John
(Disappointed)  Huh, someone out drove me

He gets back in the cart and they all drive off in their carts to find their golf balls.  Cut to shot of two golf balls.  One is Johns and the other’s is Dave’s, which is about 2 two yards in front of John’s.  John and Dave, who are riding together, come up the fairway in their cart.  They pull up the balls and get out of the cart.  After the two pull respective club from the bags, they walk up to the two balls.  John is more concerned for the ball in front of his.  Dave slowly and confidently walks up to the ball and checks out the shot he has left to hit the green.

John
That is a hell of a shot Dave

Thanks

John
You must have been playing for a while because I usually do not get out driven.

Dave
Well, I used to be in a league.

John
It shows

John walks around his ball as he his looking up at the green. He takes a step back and then addresses a ball.  He takes a swing and sends the ball flying into the air.  We see the ball as it continues its arc to the green.  Cut to the green where we see Dave and John in the background.  The ball drops and rolls to about 8 feet from the whole. 

Dave
Nice Shot

John
Thanks, all in a days work

Dave
I guess it’s my turn

Dave surveys his shot and then addresses the ball.  He takes a nice, slow swing.  A huge divot comes out of the grass as he follows through.  The ball soars into the air as he watches it while holding his club in the post swing.  Cut to green.  The ball hits where Dave’s ball is and rolls about four feet closer to the hole. John’s jaw drops as he cannot believe what just happened.  Dave lets the club slide down his hands as he admires the shot he just made. 

John
Looks like someone has an easy putt for birdie

Dave
You as well

John
But mine isn’t putter length. 

Dave
Well, what can I say?

John
It’s going to be a long day

This is the start of a montage of golf shots.  The shots consist of John and Dave trying to up the other.  Shots of putting, chipping, driving, and some other shots fill the scenes.  We really can’t too who is winning because even though they are having great shots, they still have bad shots as well.  This goes on for about 30-40 seconds until it cuts to the 18^th green.  A ball has just rolled into the cup.

John
Nice shot, looks like I need this for the win

Dave
Yes, but its all for fun

John
Right

John takes his time with the shot as he is under a considerable amount of pressure.  He checks the shot from every angle making sure that he has the break and the speed perfect. 

Other guys
Come on John, just miss it and tie so we can go

John
Just hold on

He stands over the ball as he prepares to take the shot.  He takes a deep breath as he looks at the hole for the last time.  He swings the putter at the ball in a pendulum motion.  The ball goes towards the hole as it slopes from left to right.  Cut back to the expression on John’s face and then to Dave.  The ball starts to slow as it gets ever so close to the hole.  The ball comes to a slow roll right at the lip of the cup and just as you think it is going to stop, it falls in.  John is flabergastic as he drops to his knees.  Dave puts his head down and walks over to the cart. 

Other guys
Great shot John. Now can we go?

John
You betcha. 

John walks over to the cart and puts his putter in the bag. Dave is sitting in the cart waiting for John

John
Looks like I won by a stroke

Dave
Looks that way

John
Hey, no hurt feelings alright. (He extends his hand)

Dave
No hurt feelings (He shakes John’s hand)

They drive off and the scene ends.

INTERIOR: OFFICE, DAY

There are five people sitting around a conference room discussing the latest case.  John and two of the other men in the room were with him and Dave when they were golfing a few days ago.  There is also one lady sitting at the head of the table between John and Tim.  The other guy, Kyle, is sitting across the table next to John.  There are a bunch of papers and manila folders thrown about on the table.  An old white-haired man is barking orders at the four of them as he paces back and forth in front of them. 

Jack Winters
Come on now, people.  What the hell have you been doing lately?

A blank stare comes across the four of his employees at the other end of the table. 

Jack Winters
(Picks up a folder and looks it over for a second and throws it on the table)

You people are a disgrace.  What the hell do I pay you for?  You’re losing cases that some bum on the street could win.  Well guess what?  If we don’t win cases, we don’t get any money now do we?  And if we don’t get any money, then I can’t pay your sorry asses. 

John
Listen, Jack

Jack Winters
No, you listen John, you are not as good as you think you are.  You need to be doing it better and smarter than the next guy, so get on it.

John
Yes sir

The door opens and in comes a secretary for Winters. 

Teresa
Excuse me, Mr. Winters

Winters
What is it Teresa? (A real angry tone in his voice)

A Mr. Robinson, He says he is your friend

Winters
Oh yes, thank you Teresa, I will be right there.  

She turns and leaves the conference room

Winters
 Come on John, I need you for this case.  I wouldn’t trust these imbeciles with a petty theft case

The other three display a sad look on their faces.  John gets up and walks out of the room with Jack.  The door closes to the office but then Jack opens the door and sticks his head in.

Winters
Well, let’s go ladies; there is work to be done. (He closes the door)

Kyle
Man, does someone have a bug up there ass today

Winters-from the other room
I heard that

Lady
(Sighs) We can’t win.

The three of them get up and leave the conference room.    

INTERIOR: WINTER’S OFFICE, DAY

Jack Winters and John are sitting at opposite sides of the desk.  A voice is heard coming from the speaker phone.  It is coming from Mr. Robinson who is explaining some things to John and Jack.

Mr. Robinson
So like I was saying, my wife has had serious problems with her knees since she had knee surgery. 

John
Well did the doctor say she would experience any side effects after the surgery?

Jack looks on curiously as if John is being a smart ass. 

Mr. Robinson
No, Dr. Welsh said she would be back to normal within a month.  It has been over two months.  She has such excruciating pain all day long.  I’ve had to get her pain medication just so she can get by. 

John
Malpractice cases are very tough in court.  The hospital has great lawyers. 

Jack
Nonsense.  You are better than any of them. Look at this way, win or find another job.  (He starts laughing followed by the other three)

Jack
We will look into it, buddy.  Drop by today with all of the information and give it to John

Mr. Robinson
You got it Jack.  I will talk to you later. 

A click is heard from the speaker phone.  Jack reaches up and hangs up his end

Jack
So what do you think?

John
Hmmmm… Well it is going to be a tough case like I said

Jack
Come on John, you’ve done ones like this before

John
True, but malpractice cases are unpredictable. 

Jack
Well, don’t worry.  Robinson will stop by later with some more info.  I want you to get into this tonight. 

John
But

Jack
No buts John, we need to get rolling on this.  He is my friend from the army and I want him to have your full and undivided attention.

John
Okay sir

Jack
Great

They both sit there but Jack turns to his computer.  He then turns back to John who is still sitting there.

Jack
That is all John

John gets up and leaves the room. Walks out of Jack’s office and close the door as Jack sits quietly at his desk working on some paperwork.  When the door closes, John lets out a sigh of relief and then walks over to his desk.  He sits down at his desk and leans back into his chair. After a couple seconds he leans forward and starts typing into his laptop. 

INTERIOR: HOUSE, DAY

Kristin is walking around the house talking to her friend Sarah on the phone. She is wearing a pair of jogging pants and a white tank top, which shows off her beautiful body.  She walks over to the TV room and lays down on the couch and puts her legs over the top of the couch. 

Kristin
I think you will really like Dave, he is such a nice guy. Did I tell you that he saved my life?

Kristin
Oh, three times already

Kristin
Oh hold on, I have another call.  (She pushes a button on the phone)
Hello

John
Hey Honey

Kristin
Oh, hey, hold on, I have Sarah on the other line.  (She pushes the flash button) Sarah, its John, we will be by to pick you up around 6:30, Bye bye.  (She starts talking to John)
What’s up?

John
Well, I got some bad news

Kristin
What is it?

John
It looks like I will not be able to make it tonight

Kristin
Why not (angry tone in her voice)

John
Winter’s has me here all night working on this case for his buddy

 

Kristin
John, we’re going out with Dave and Sarah tonight, remember, I set up Sarah and Dave?

John
I remember, honey I am sorry, there is nothing I can do

Kristin
Why does your work always come ahead of me

John
You know that is not true

Kristin
Whatever

John
Kristin, (click)

She hands up the phone in disgust and walks into the kitchen.  Cut back to John who slowly puts the phone down and leans back in his chair.  As he breaths a heavy sigh he looks over to Jack’s office where he is standing looking at him through the window.  John leans forward and continues his work on the laptop. 

EXTERIOR MOVIE THEATER: NIGHT

Kristin and Sarah are walking towards the theater as they chat along the way. 

Sarah
I am so nervous

Kristin
Oh, don’t be. 

Sarah
I have never been out on a blind date before, do you think it’s too late to bail?

Kristin
What? Oh no

Sarah
What’s with you?

Kristin
I’m thinking about John. I was a real bitch on the phone earlier because of work and all.

Sarah
He’s a big boy, he will get over it. 

They stop walking and wait outside of the theater for Dave

Sarah
You gave him for not coming out.  I would have too.  It is important that they fear you. (She laughs)

Kristin
I will have to remember that

Sarah
So where is this loser?

Kristin
Sarah! He is a nice guy

Sarah
Okay, okay

Kristin
You will love him, I know you will

The camera pans as the door to the movie theater opens and Dave walks out with a soda and a huge container of popcorn.  He has a big smile on his face

Dave
Hello ladies

Kristin and Sarah turn around

Kristin and Sarah
Hi

Kristin
Dave, this is my best friend Sarah.  Sarah this is Dave

Kristin introduces the two.  Sarah and Dave shake hands. 

Dave
It’s nice to meet you

Sarah
You too

Kristin
Come on we better get inside before it gets sold out

Dave
Oh don’t worry about that.  I got the tickets already.

He gets out three tickets and gives one to Sarah and one to Kristin

Kristin
You didn’t have to do that

Dave
Ahh, forget about it

Sarah
That is so sweet

Dave opens the door and looks back to the girls

Dave
Shall we?

Kristin and Sarah walk into the theater as Dave holds the door.  Sarah thanks Dave as she passes by him.  When they get inside the two girls look at each other.  Sarah turns to Kristin and they both smile. 

Dave
Does anyone want something to eat?

Kristin
No thanks

Sarah
Can I have some of your’s

Dave
Sure

The three of them walk over to the ticket taker and gives him their ticket.  They walk down to theater on the left and in the door.  As most people that go to the movies, the three stand around looking for a good spot.

Sarah
Where should we sit?

Kristin

How about in the back?

Sarah
Sounds good, what do you think Dave

Dave
Whatever you guys want

Sarah
He is very easy to get along with

Kristin
I told you

The three slide in the back row of the theater.  Kristin, followed by Dave and Sarah sit down in the middle of the back row.  Dave and Sarah continue to talk to each other, but every so often Dave will look over at Kristin. The lights dim and the screen lights up as the movie starts.    

INTERIOR: OFFICE, NIGHT

John is sitting quietly at his desk working on the case for Mr. Robinson.  As he is working on his laptop, he occasionally turns to the folders of papers on his desk.  The sound of a door shutting is heard off of the screen.  John looks up as Winters leaves his office for the day. 

Winters
Keep up the good work John.

John
Yes,...

By the time he says that Winters is already out of the office.  John sighs and gets back to work. 

EXTERIOR: MOVIE THEATER, NIGHT

Sarah, Dave, and Kristin walk out of the theater in a deep discussion of the movie.  They are all laughing. 

Sarah
No way was that possible

Kristin
What the getaway at the end?

Sarah
Yes.  They couldn’t get through all those people

Dave
Not true, always believe there is a way in the Cinema

Sarah
(Laughing) I’ll remember that.  So you guys want to get something to eat?

Dave
Sure, I am starving

Kristin
I think I am going to go see John at the office. We had a fight on the phone and I want to go fix things

Sarah
Okay.  Dave, you still want to get something to eat?

Dave
Yeah okay

Kristin
I’ll talk to you tomorrow Sarah.  Call me.  See-you Dave

Kristin gets into her car and drives off

EXTERIOR: WINTERS AND ASSOCIATES OFFICE BUILDING, NIGHT

The camera pulls away from a shot of the sign on the building to the car coming into the parking lot.  Kristin pulls up in front of the building right next to John’s sports car.  She gets out of her vehicle and walks up to the front door and into the building.

Cut to office interior

John is in the kitchen getting a soda out of the fridge and a bag of chips from the cupboard.  He walks out of the kitchen and back to his desk.  The office is completely empty as it should be at 10:30 at night.  He sits down and takes a drink of his soda and lets out a big enjoying sigh.  He grabs some chips out of the bag and turns to his computer.  A noise of a door shutting is heard behind him. 

John turns around and looks at the conference room. 

John
Is there someone here?

He gets up and walks over to the conference room.  He slowly opens the door and turns on the light.  He looks around the room and sees nothing.  He then turns back to the door where he sees Kristin waiting in the corner. She jumps up on him and gives him a big hug.  The momentum of the jump causes John to fall back onto the conference room table.  He softly lays across the table as Kristin is on top of him.

Kristin
Hey baby

John
Hey Kristin, what are you doing here?

Kristin
I came to see you.  I felt bad about the fight we had on the phone earlier. 

John
Oh, don’t worry about it, it was my fault anyway (He kisses her on her forehead)

Kristin
But, I still wanted to make it up to you (A small grin comes across her face)

John
(Pauses for a moment) Here?

Kristin
Why not?  Everybody left right?

John
Well, yes, but...

Kristin takes off her shirt and then proceeds to take off Johns.  She pushes John back onto the table.  She slides down his body and pulls off his pants and then climbs back up on top of him.  The scene fades as she kisses him romantically on the lips. 

EXTERIOR: SARAH’S APARTMENT, NIGHT

Dave and Sarah are walking up the street to her apartment holding hands.  When they get to the door to the apartment of the apartment complex they stop and turn toward each other. 

Sarah
I had a great time tonight Dave, thanks again for the movie and for dinner

Dave
No problem

Sarah
 We’ll have to do it again.

Dave
Yea, okay

Sarah leans over and kisses Dave

Sarah
Bye

Dave
Bye

Dave turns away and walks back to his car. 

INTERIOR: WINTER’S OFFICE, NIGHT

John and Kristin’s clothes are scattered on the floor under the desk.  The two are lying on the table naked still as they are talking.

John
So how was the movie?

Kristin
Good, but I am more excited about Sarah and Dave

John
Oh, really?

Kristin
Yes, I think they will be make a great couple

John
Good

Kristin
(Sighs) So you think Winter’s will let you go home now?

John
No, but we’re going anyway (He turns over and kisses her)

John gets off the table and picks up his clothes.  He tosses Kristin’s clothes at her face in a joking way

Kristin
Jerk

John
(Laughs) Like old times huh?

Kristin
Yep

The two leave the room and shut off the lights as the camera zooms in on the black panties of Kristin’s.  The scene goes dark.

EXTERIOR: HOUSE, NIGHT

John and Kristin pull up to their house.  John gets out of his car and walks back to Kristin’s car where he picks her up and closes the door with his foot.  He carries her into the house as they are both laughing.  The camera turns 180 degrees where we see Dave staring at the two from the front seat of his truck.  He gets a jealous look on his face.  The scene fades as he continues to look on.
