Interior: TV Show, “The World Today”
The camera pans across the room, as we see members of the audience.
They are all cheering as we come back from a commercial break. The
camera keeps going around the room until it comes in straight to the
host.
Host:
Hi and welcome back to “The World Today.” We are back with
Psychologist Marion Jacobsen.
The camera pans over to her then back to the host.
Host:
So Marion, I understand you have just published your first book. A
New York Times bestseller even.
Marion Jacobsen:
That is correct (host). It’s called Popularity, When Is Too Much?
The premise behind this, are the good and bad things that come with
being so called “popular.” In the book, I try to describe more of the
downfalls as opposed to the benefits.
Host:
Wait a second Marion. Are you trying to imply that it’s bad to be
popular?
Marion
Jacobsen: No, it’s just that…..
She is cut off in mid sentence by the host.
Host:
Marion, its every person’s dream to be rich and famous, especially
teenagers. When I was 17 years old, I wanted to be rich and famous.
Marion Jacobsen:
I didn’t say rich and famous, but that’s fine. (She has some tone in
her voice). I was saying that popularity brings friends. Popularity
also brings the “wrong” types of friends, such as stalkers or people
that just don’t like that fact that someone else is getting all of the
attention. Envy, jealousy.
Host:
The book, Popularity, When Is Too Much? by Marion Jacobsen, is in
stores now. Marion, thanks for being on the show.
Marion:
Thank you
The camera pans across to Marion and it fades to
black
Opening Credits
The camera scrolls left and right on a
wall which is covered in clippings and pictures. From what we can see,
the pictures of a girl who is getting awards and things of that nature.
Pictures of friends and family members. Some music is playing around
this time as well. Maybe Cape Fear theme.

We don’t see all of the pictures on the wall just
some more of the popular ones.
Exterior: Outside Park, Day
One of the pictures from the opening credits dissolve into a real
life scene of Kiersten sitting in the park talking with her friends. No
sound of the people talking are heard, mostly the music in the
background. Then it cuts to the Kiersten walking with her boyfriend. A
couple people walk up to her and shake her hand. She acknowledges them
and then keeps walking. She is holding hands with her boyfriend. Cut
to house
Exterior: House, Evening
The camera looks upon a huge house. You can tell
the owners are rich. The camera gets a good view of the house. The
music has stopped now. Cut to inside of house
Interior: House
Talking is heard coming from one of the rooms in
the house. The camera rolls through the house to get to that room.
There are some pictures of the family on end tables. The camera keeps
rolling and we see three girls sitting on the couch. The camera is
behind them. They are laughing at something. The camera is then
directly in front of them. They are looking at photos in a photo
album. Kiersten and Michelle are sitting fairly close together, like
best friends would sit. The other girl (Katie) has some distance
between her and Kiersten. She has a left out look on her face.
Michelle:
Katie, take a look at this.
Katie leans over and takes a look at the photo
album
Kiersten:
Don’t show her that
Michelle:
Taking a bath with Chris, when they were 5. Aren’t they so cute? (Luaghing)
Kiersten
is embarrassed as her face is all red. She puts her hands over her
face, and the turns the page. The other two girls are still laughing
Michelle:
(Sighs) High School Graduation.
Katie:
You had to speak at graduation?
Kiersten:
Yes, I was the class president, I was obligated.
Katie:
I guess not much changes from High School to College huh?
Michelle:
She does everything, then and now. Class president, prom queen, you
name it, she’s done it.
Katie:
Now I see why everybody comes up to you. You know more people then I
have every met in my life.
Kiersten:
Well my parents are big townspeople.
Michelle:
Your mean they are this town. (Luaghs) Speaking of them, where are they?
Kiersten:
Out of town till tomorrow on a business trip.
Katie:
I wish I could be like you. (She give a devilish look)
The girls turn the page and then they start
laughing again. A knock comes from the door. The girls look up, while
they are still laughing. Kiersten gets up and walks to the front door.
She opens the door and her boyfriend, Chris, is standing there with a
plate of brownies.
Chris:
Hey there Kierst
Kiersten:
Hi. (Loving Hi, lovable eyes)
Chris:
I made you some brownies
Kiersten:
Oh, that is so sweet. (She hugs him) I love you
Chris:
I love you too
The two walk into the house and up to where
everybody else is. The two girls look up
Chris:
Anybody want some brownies?
Michelle:
Actually we have to get going (She indiscreetly taps Katie)
Katie:
Yea, we have to get to the mall
Kiersten:
Okay. Well call me later
The two girls walk out of the room and out the
front door. When the door closes the dialogue picks up
Kiersten:
My parents will not be back until tomorrow
Chris:
Alright (Grin on his face)
The two start to go at it by kissing, and then
Chris pulls of her shirt and we see her bra. The two fall on the couch
and the scene ends. Cut to outside of the house where the two girls are
walking down the street
Katie:
She doesn’t expect anything, you think
Michelle:
Yes, everything is going according to schedule. It will be on hell of a
surprise.
The girls look back at the house as an eerie
feeling comes across the air. The camera gets a good look at the house
and the girls faces. Michelle has a devious look on her face as Katie
has a happy look on hers
Interior: Kiersten’s House, Day
Chris and Kiersten are sitting
on the couch watching TV. Whatever they are watching they are really
interested as can be seen by the eyes wide stare. They occasionally
make a comment. A couple of minutes pass and soon we finally meet the
parents. The Mom and Dad walk into the room
Mom:
Hi kids.
Kiersten:
Hi Mom, (She goes over and gives her a hug) How was your trip?
Mom:
Well, it was interesting.
Dad:
Waste of my god damn time. (He walks over to Chris) How are you Chris?
Chris:
Great Mr. P. How are you doing?
Dad:
Dad, glad to be back. Come here I want to show you something (The two
walk out of the room)
The two girls watch as they leave the room
Mom:
He has always been like a son to your father.
Kiersten:
I know, its great how they get along so well. So tell me about the
business trip.
Mom:
You don’t want to know. (She puts her hands up in the air, and she
walks through the room)
The two guys come back in the room.
Dad:
Come on let’s go get something to eat, I’m starving. You coming Chris?
Chris:
You know I can’t refuse an offer like that
Kiersten:
Yes, we all know. (They all laugh)
Dad:
Oh, Kiersten, I met some people that want to meet you. I told them all
about you.
Kiersten:
Great Dad.
The two girls walk out the front door and the men
shortly thereafter. Just as the two men get to the door, the father
turns towards Chris
Dad:
Everything all set for the party?
Chris:
Yes sir, plans have been made. All wheels are in motion
Dad:
(He pats him on the back) Good Chris, good.
They walk out of the house and the scene ends.
Interior: Unknown Room
We see a shadowy figure getting
equipment ready for some sort of event. He is collecting a bunch of
lenses for a camera. The room is very dark, we never see his face.
Only an outline of his body and his hands mostly. He is putting them
all into a suitcase.
Exterior: Hub Lawn, Day
Kiersten is walking along
the sidewalk of the Hub. She is seen from the distance through a lens.
Apparently the guy we saw in the last seen is taking photos of her. We
see her sitting by a tree as the guy is taking more pictures. Friends
and others come up to her but he only focuses on her. There is also one
picture where the guy is standing on the other side of the tree. As the
scene goes on there are some pictures of school and of Kiersten at
home. Scene ends
Interior: Unknown Location
The camera pans around the room. We
see the suitcase open with the photo equipment on the table. Next we
see a guy in the dark room making pictures. Next we see somebody
hanging up the pics on the wall. It looks like the same wall from the
opening sequence. We see only some of the pics as usual. There seems
to be a lot of pictures but we don’t see the whole collage. The guy is
then seen back in the dark room. He gets up and closes the door, then
goes to the front door of the room and leaves. He walks off down the
hall. He has a book bag on. He passes a teacher on his right side as
he leaves. The teacher looks at him suspiciously. He sees something
fall of his bag. He goes and picks it up. It seems to be a picture of
some girl, he recognizes her as the daughter of the Parents who send a
lot of money to the University. He looks back at the guy walking away,
and then turns his head back to the room he left from. He walks up to
it and opens the door. It is unlocked. He walks in and the room smells
weird, like urethane or some picture smelling odor. He sees a red light
coming from on the rooms. He goes over to it and opens the door. To
his amazement he says many pictures of the same girl hanging on a wire.
The camera looks away from his face and at the pictures on the wire.
The scene ends.
Interior: Kiersten’s House
The action picks up in Kiersten’s house
where we see Kiersten, Chris and Michelle sitting around the table. The
camera pans across them and then to front door as a knock comes from the
door. Chris gets up and walks past the door and opens it to see a
detective standing there.
Hicks:
Hi Son. I am Detective Hicks with the State College Police Department.
(He Flashes his badge) I am looking for a Kiersten Patrick
Chris:
What is all this about Detective?
Hicks:
It’s just better if I can talk to her about that
Chris:
Alright, come on in
The two walk into the room where Kiersten and
Michelle are. Chris walks over to Kiersten and whispers into her ear
Chris:
Kierst, are you in some kind of trouble?
Kiersten:
No honey why?
Chris:
(He looks up at the Detective) There is a cop here to see you
The Detective makes himself known
Hicks:
Hi Kiersten: I am sorry to bother you but we have a situation
Kiersten:
What?
Hicks:
Do you know this guy? (He takes the picture of a kid out of his
jacket. He is freaky looking. Spiked hair, ear rings, nose ring. They
all look at the picture)
Kiersten:
I have never seen him
Chris and Michelle look at each other and then up
at the cop
Hicks:
Well, he certainly knows you. (He pulls out some pictures of the
pictures that came from the dark room) This was in his dorm room. I
think we should head down to the station.
Interior: Police Station, Night
The detective is interrogating the
suspect as the others look on through the glass.
Guy:
I told you already. I was taking pictures for the college paper. I am
doing a story, and since Kiersten is the President of the Class, I
thought I would include her in it.
Hicks:
I am tired of your bullshit. Where did you get the newspaper clippings
then?
Guy:
Well, to write a good story, you have to do some research. You can find
out anything about anybody on the Internet.
Hicks’ slams is hands down on the table. The guy
lurches back
Hicks:
I got my eyes on you. Just watch you step, one wrong move and I will be
there to squash your ass. (He walks out of the room to the others)
Kiersten:
Well, what’s the deal Detective?
Hicks:
(Sighs) We can’t hold him. We do not have anything solid
Chris:
Detective Hicks? You have to hold him here. I don’t want him harassing
Kiersten
Hicks:
I wish I could help you out kid. We have no motive, but you can believe
I will have my eyes on him.
The camera turns from the detective, then to the
three kids, and then fades into the room where the suspect is. The
scene ends.
Dream Sequence: Kiersten’s House, Night
Kiersten comes home at night and parks
her car in the driveway. Its nice car by the way since her parents are
rich. She gets out of the car and closes the door. As soon as she
closes the door she hears the squeak of the gate door closing. She
looks up at the door as it creaks forward.
Kiersten:
Chris, is that you?
She walks over to the gate and though
the gate. As she passes through the gate she steps on something that
makes a breaking noise. She bends over and picks up the object. It
looks like a digital camera pack case. Kiersten looks around the area
but she sees nothing. She looks back at the object and then looks
around again. This time she stops looking around when she sees
something about 15 feet in front of her. It is a white object of some
sort. She stands up and walks over to the white object. She picks it
up and turns it over. It is a picture of her. She drops it and runs
back through the gate and up the steps to the front door. She goes
through the door which isn’t even shut tight. She runs to the phone and
dials the police. A blank sound comes from the phone. No Dial Tone.
Kiersten is really panicking right now. You can see the frightened
feeling upon her face. The front door cracks open. She runs up the
stairs and into her room. She opens the door, closes it and proceeds to
lock it. She leans on the door as she seems safe. After she collects
herself, she turns around and sees the guy that was taking pictures of
her earlier. He has a knife. She screams. Kiersten jumps up from her
bad dream, still screaming, then it subsides to just breathing heavy.
She settles down and goes back to sleep. End scene
Interior: Kitchen, Morning
Kiersten’s mom and Chris are in the kitchen talking about the guy
the police brought in for questioning. The dad is in the other room
talking on his cell phone to the Detective. He has a tone in his voice,
but we don’t really hear what he is saying. The camera pans the room to
where Kiersten enters the kitchen from the steps.
Mom:
Happy Birthday honey. How are you this morning? (She goes over and
gives her a hug) Chris told me what happened.
Kiersten:
Thanks. I’m fine Mom, it was just…. She is cut off by the sound of her
Dad yelling into the phone.
Dad:
Bullshit
The camera turns from the two and over to the dad
Dad:
Do your fucking job detective. Get this damn psycho off the streets.
He hangs up the phone and walks into the kitchen
where everybody is. He has an angry look on his face.
Kiersten:
It’s alright Dad.
Dad:
Those damn cops couldn’t catch a fat nigger on foot.
Mom:
Stop it
Dad:
Happy Birthday honey (He goes over and gives her a hug and a kiss on her
head)
Kiersten:
Thanks daddy
The dad looks at all of them and then back to the
daughter. He turns to the boyfriend.
Dad:
Keep an eye on her
Chris:
Anything for you or your daughter.
The dad leaves the room and the mom follows suit.
Mom: Have fun you guys, Chris tells me he planned
a big day for you. Sounds exciting. (She walks out)
Chris puts his arm around Kiersten
Chris:
Everything will be just fine. And, happy birthday. The scene ends.
Exterior: Birthday Trip
Not really much explaining here or
extended scenes. Just a bunch of clips of Chris and Kiersten having a
good time.
- Mini Golf
- Go-karts
- Picnic
- Walk in the mountains with a great view
- Kissing and hugging
Toward the end of the day we see Chris on his cell
phone. He calls Kiersten’s house
Michelle:
Hello?
Chris:
Michelle? Is everything ready?
Michelle:
Just putting the finishing touches on now. (The camera is in front of
her, and we can see Katie and Kiersten’s mom putting up balloons and
other party supplies.
Chris:
We’ll see you for dinner in about 30 minutes
Michelle:
Okay bye
Chris hangs up the phone and we see Kiersten down
by a pond. She looks up and waves. The scene ends as Chris is walking
down to the pond.
Interior: Restaurant, Evening
We next see Michelle, Chris, Katie, and
Kiersten eating dinner at a fancy restaurant. They are all having a
good time, laughing and carrying on. This scene is very brief. The
action picks up when they leave the restaurant. Kiersten is carrying a
bag of gifts.
Kiersten:
Thanks guys for everything
Girls:
No problem, Happy Birthday
They all hug and Katie and Michelle leave in their
car.
Chris and Kiersten kiss and then get in Chris’s
car. They then drive back to Kiersten’s house. They get out of the car
and Kiersten walks over to Chris.
Kiersten:
I had a wonderful day, thank you
Chris:
Well its not over yet
Kiersten:
Chris, my parents
Chris:
Don’t worry about that.
They walk into the house, Chris trailing Kiersten.
They walk to the main room and
Everybody:
Surprise! (Surprise birthday party)
Kiersten:
Oh, you guys
Everybody is there, Katie, Michelle, even friends
from school.
Katie:
Were all here for your birthday Kiersten.
Kiersten:
Well, what are you waiting for? This get this party started. The music
starts
Interior: House Party, Night
Everybody is having a good old time at
Kiersten’s 20th birthday party. There are not a lot of
people there, but enough to make some noise. Everybody is dancing to
the song Butterfly, by CrazyTown. Kiersten is at the head of the pack.
That goes on for a couple minutes, and then people start to move on to
other things. Kiersten is walking through the house saying hi to people
as they are saying hi back. She meets up later with her boyfriend as
well as Michelle. They are sitting on the couch drinking sodas and
laughing. Katie walks in with two guys on her arms. Kiersten and
Michelle give each other sarcastic looks. She gives them one back and
then walks off into the other room. The camera takes a look at the
party goers. They are all having a good time. We then go upstairs to
the bedroom where we see Kiersten’s parents laying in bed reading
magazines.
Dad:
I hope this party is over soon, I want to get some shuteye.
Mom:
Can you just relax for one night. It’s bad enough you disgraced the
entire police department.
Dad:
Don’t start.
The camera goes back downstairs to where all the
action is. Kiersten gets up from the couch where everybody else is.
Kiersten:
I have to go to the bathroom. Be right back.
She walks off to the bathroom. We next see her
washing her hands. The camera is behind her and we see her face through
the mirror. She wets her face and when she stands up we can see the guy
in the background. She freaks out.
Guy:
Wait, Kiersten, wait a second before you start screaming. (She calms
down)
The pictures I took of you.
Kiersten:
Yea, what about them you freak?
Guy:
I was hired
Kiersten:
Is that so, by whom?
Guy:
By…. (A knock comes from the door)
Chris:
What’s going on in there (He opens the door and sees the guy standing
there confronting his girlfriend) You son of a bitch. Get out of here
(He shoves the guy out of the bathroom and into the wall, turns back to
Kiersten) This will only take a minute.
We see Chris walk off after the guy, but the camera
does not follow. Instead Kiersten gets herself together. Katie,
Michelle and some other people walk up to her. Michelle goes over to
her and gives her a hug as she starts to cry. Just then the parents
come down the steps.
Dad:
What the hell is going on down here?
Michelle:
Your daughter has been shaken up.
Mom:
By what?
Michelle:
That guy was here
Dad:
The guy taking pictures of my daughter? (They nod) That little
bastard. Where the fuck is he? (He walks towards the front door. Just
then, Chris walks in)
Dad:
Where is he?
Chris:
He’s gone, he ran off
Dad:
I don’t think so. (He grabs his keys and runs out the door)
Mom:
Okay, guys party over.
Everybody files out while Kiersten’s close friends
comfort her. The scene ends as the camera tails off
Interior: Kiersten’s House, Mid-Day
The camera zooms out from a close up of
a picture of the family. It is the next day, and the detective is back
at the house trying to figure out why this guy is chasing after Kiersten.
Kiersten, her mom and dad are also in the room, but mostly her dad and
the detective are talking.
Dad:
Any news Detective?
Hicks:
Nothing new sir.
Dad:
What the hell. Do you know anything? I contribute a lot to this town
Hicks:
And we appreciate it. (He Pauses) Kiersten, you said he was hired to
take pictures of you?
Kiersten:
That right
Hicks:
Did you say who hired him?
Kiersten:
No, he was cut off when Chris came to the door and kicked him out.
Dad:
Who the fuck is behind this?
Mom:
Watch your language?
Detective:
Do you have any enemies?
Dad:
No way
Detective:
Nobody has any grudges against you? The mom and dad look at each other
Dad:
Well if you say it that way, everybody I ran out of the town. (He
laughs)
Mom:
This isn’t the time for jokes. Someone is after our daughter. Tell
them
Dad:
(He sighs and looks down) Well there is this one thing.
It was about 20 years ago. Just after Kiersten was
born. We were on our way from the hospital. There was an accident. Oh,
it was dark, the car came out of know where Three people died.
Detective:
Who were they?
Mom:
A family of three, with a 6 month old daughter.
Kiersten:
What, when the hell were you going to tell me this?
Dad:
It’s all in the past honey
Kiersten:
I can’t believe you (She runs out of the room, the parents look at each
other)
Hicks:
Well, it looks like the past has just caught up with you.
Dad:
(He looks back at the detective) Let me know what you find out
detective.
Detective: Sure, (He gets up and walks out of the
room and to the front door. The parents follow him) By the way, let me
know if you can think of any other life altering incidents. He walks out
the door and the scene ends.
Exterior: Park, Day
It is a beautiful day. There
are many people playing in the park. Michelle is there babysitting a
little boy. He is over on the slide having a good old time with all of
the other kids. She isn’t really paying attention to the kid though.
He goes down the slide and falls but she doesn’t really pay attention to
him. She is more concerned about the magazine she is reading, “Teen
People.” The camera turns and sees Katie walking down the park path.
She walks up to Michelle and sits down.
Katie: What’s up girl?
Michelle: Babysitting that little rat over there.
Katie: Sounds like fun
Michelle: What do you need?
Katie: I was walking by and I saw you over here, I
thought I would drop by
Michelle doesn’t say anything, she just keeps on
reading
Katie: So, what’s the status with that freaky guy
and Kiersten?
Michelle: What am I? The host of 20 questions?
Katie: I thought you might know something.
Michelle: Well I don’t-
Katie: Shit, it must be that time of month, huh?
Michelle: You bitch. (Silence)
Michelle: Finally, his mom is here, I can finally
leave this dump. (She walks over to the mom and then back to Katie)
See-ya later
Katie: Where are you going?
Michelle: Home (She walks away and then Katie
walks away in the opposite direction. Scene Ends)
Interior: Car, Day
Chris is driving is car along the
country road. His car is winding back and forth around the country
road. The camera is stationary at points and it is also in front of him
and beside the car. The camera comes in the car and he is jamming to
some music. Next we see him downtown and he stops at a red light. He
looks over and we see two girls sitting on a bench. They are real
trashy looking. They call over to him
Girl 1:
Nice car!
Chris:
(He looks over at them) Thanks
Girl 2:
Sexy, it’s real sex baby
The girls start to laugh
Girl 1:
Why don’t you take us for a ride and then we’ll take you for a ride.
Chris:
No thanks, I already have a girl.
Girl 2:
Yea, that preppy school bitch.
Chris:
(He looks back at the light, it turns green, and then he looks back at
the girls and smile. He drives off)
Girl 2:
What a dick
We see Chris coming down a road and making a right
hand turn down the lane to Kiersten’s house. The camera is now situated
outside the car and we see the car zoom past us. He pulls up to her
house. Chris turns the car off and walks up to the front door and walks
into the house. He calls for Kiersten but he hears no answer. The
phone is off the hook and we hear that familiar sound. Chris calls for
her again. No answer once again. He goes over to the drawer and gets a
knife out. The tone of the situation gets worse, as we hear some dark
music. Chris walks up the stairs but he hears or sees nothing. Chris
is taking his time because he has no idea what is going on. Who would
do something in the middle of the day like this? He walks up the first
flight of steps and turns to the right. Nothing. He then continues to
search the house. He hears some faint moans and cries. It’s coming
from the third floor. He walks a little faster and runs up the steps
and into Kiersten’s room. He opens the door and calls to Kiersten. He
looks around the room and sees Kiersten on the other side of the bed.
As he is walking over to her, the camera switches sides and we see a
dark figure behind the door for a split second. The camera turns back
and we see Chris walking back to her. Kiersten is lying on the floor
crying. She is obviously in some sort of pain.
Chris:
What’s wrong? Kiersten:
Kiersten:
(She looks up at him and then behind him)
Chris turns around slowly just to get a board in
the face. The room goes dark. Scene ends
Some time passes but dark scene dissolves to see
Kiersten staring right into the camera. We can barely hear what she is
saying. If we can read lips, it looks like she is saying Chris, are you
okay. The camera turns behind her and we can see her kiss him. We then
turn back to Chris as his eyes are finally opening. Kiersten’s Mom is
in the background
Kiersten:
Are you okay baby?
Chris:
(He sits up, and moans) Yea, one hell of a headache. What the hell
happened?
Kiersten:
You were knocked out by some guy in a black mask.
Chris:
Where is he? (He quickly jumps up but then then he staggers back and
forth).
Kiersten:
He’s gone. (She catches him as he staggers) I got you; sit down
honey, before you pass out)
Chris:
I’m fine. (He stands up)
Kiersten:
Why is this happening?
Chris:
I have no idea, but obviously he doesn’t want you dead. Why is he
toying with you?
Kiersten:
I don’t know but the cops don't no anything either.
Mom:
Your father went to the police station to get an arrest warrant.
Chris:
I don’t want you out of my sight, okay
Kiersten:
But I am meeting Katie later on the hub lawn later
Chris:
Well, you’re going to have company now.
The scene ends as they hug each other.
Exterior: Police Station, Day
The scene opens to where we see the
police station. We know it’s a police station because the camera pans
from the police station sign to the cars back to the building. We then
proceed inside. We see the interrogating room, as well as the jail
cells, which are empty for the one that we are looking at. The camera
then goes down to Detective Hicks office. He is saying good bye to
Kiersten’s parents.
Hicks: I will let you know of anything that turns
up. Take care
Hick’s walks back into his office and the closes
the door. He sits down at his desk and takes a sip of coffee. He then
turns his chair and picks up the folder on his desk. On the manila
folder, the name at the top says Kiersten Last Name. He opens it up and
reads through it. He then throws it on the top of the desk and leans
back on his chair. As he is looking up in the air, he starts thinking
out loud. “The father mentioned 20 years ago they got in a car
accident. What is the date for that?” He looks back through the folder
but finds nothing. He turns to his computer which has a cool cop screen
saver on it. After he types in his logon password, the computer says
Welcome Back Detective, I have missed you. “I have missed you too”. He
gets another sip of coffee and then takes a bite of donut. The scene
ends as he is searching for information on his computer.
Exterior: Michelle’s House, Evening
The sun is setting as we see a car pull
up and a girl gets out of it. It is Katie; she must obviously be here
to amend the problem from earlier in the day when Michelle was giving
her a bunch of shit. She walks up to the door and rings the door bell.
Michelle comes downstairs and answers the door. She hardly has any
clothes on.
Michelle:
Oh, hi Katie, what’s up?
Katie:
Nothing much, I came over to talk you about this morning.
Michelle:
Hold on a sec. (She goes inside and then comes back) Come on in Katie
They walk in and then up to Katie’s room
Michelle:
So what did you want to talk about again?
Katie:
Are we ok?
Michelle:
Yea, why?
Katie:
This morning, you were kind of a bitch
Michelle:
Yea it was just one of those days, know what I mean
Katie:
yea I hear that girl
Michelle:
Want something to drink?
Katie:
Sure but I can’t stay long, I am meeting Kiersten tonight in the park.
Michelle:
Okay (She walks downstairs to get something to drink.
Katie walks around the room looking at the pictures
on the wall. We can see that Michelle isn’t nearly as popular as
Kiersten. Most of the pictures are of her and Kiersten and Chris. We
see some award pictures but not without seeing Kiersten in it as well.
Usually Michelle is the runner up. As she walks around the room she
trips on the shoes on the floor. They are mans shoes but she never
really thinks about it. She then looks down on a bad underneath the
floor. A door downstairs closes. Katie goes to the window and looks to
the driveway. She sees a figure run off down the street. She goes back
to the bag under the bed. She pulls it off, but as she does there is a
pair on men’s boxers on top but Katie doesn’t know the boxer’s are mens.
She looks at the boxers. “Boy, I guess Michelle likes baggy boxers” She
drops them and opens the bag and pulls out pictures. “Cool, pictures,
lets take a look.” As she starts looking at the pictures, they are
obviously not pictures she was supposed to see. They are all pictures
of Kiersten, the same pictures that the guy was taking earlier in the
movie. She also pulls out a couple of newspaper clippings. We see
that Michelle as always been in Kiersten’s shadow. As she is looking at
the pile of pictures and clippings, a voice is heard from behind her.
Michelle:
It’s a bitch to be someone else’s shadow
Katie:
(Turns and drops the pictures) Why do you have these?
Michelle:
Why do you think, I hate that girl, my whole life, she is going to get
what she deserves.
Katie:
No, I am going to tell her right now (She walks over to the door)
Michelle:
I don’t think so you little tramp. (She shoves her aside and pulls out a
knife)
Katie grabs a pictures frame and hits Michelle over
the head with it. She goes flying into the bed. Katie does not think
twice about her. She runs down the steps and out to the car. She gets
in and drives off. As soon as she drives off Michelle is standing there
watching on the steps. She pulls out a cell phone and dials a number.
“She’s heading to the park, do it”
Some time passes but we see a sign for the park and
then Katie flies into the park lot all 4 tires locked up. She gets out,
but then looks behind her because she hears something. She runs over
towards the benches. They are quite far a way because it’s a secluded
place where only a few know about. She is running but then she stops
because she hears some more noises. She turns around and sees a figure
standing in front of her. She is stunned. The guy takes a swing at her
but misses. She continues to run, but now she has a follower. The
figure (we never see who it is) gains on her real fast. He catches her
jumps on her. He and she are fighting on the ground as the knife gets
closer to her chest. She is no match for her attacker. The knife goes
right through her chest. She makes some gurgling sounds but she doesn’t
die. The attacker stands up and watches her. She eventually makes it to
her feet, and then stumbled forward. We can now see Chris and Kiersten
sitting on a bench, they have their backs to us. Its is dusk right now
so we can still see a little bit. Katie calls to Kiersten she is barely
audible. Mostly only blood comes out of her mouth. She falls down as
she can hardly move. She has a lot of will. She is crawling now
because she has to warn them. She reached out to her but the attacker
is right behind her now. The attacker takes one more slash at her. We
see the knife as he holds it up in the air and the slams it through her
back. A slight whimper is heard from her. We then see Chris and
Kiersten on the bench from this angle as Katie has just been killed.
The scene goes dark as Katie’s hand falls from the air. Scene ends
Interior: Kiersten’s House, Night
As night comes and the day leaves,
Kiersten and Chris have left the park and returned home. They are
sitting at the kitchen table trying to figure out why Katie would stand
them up.
Kiersten:
Why would she do that?
Chris: Maybe something came up
Kiersten:
Maybe, but she wouldn’t do something like that. Let me call Michelle
(She picks the cordless phone off the table and dials the phone number)
Across the town we see Michelle cleaning up the
mess that was made when her and Katie made earlier in the evening. She
picks up the phone
Michelle:
Hello (She has a preoccupied tone to her voice)
Kiersten:
Hey Michelle it’s me
Michelle:
Oh hi Kiersten
Kiersten:
What’s that noise?
Michelle:
Oh, I’m cleaning. I broke glass earlier
Kiersten:
Oh. Have you heard from Katie? She was supposed to meet me earlier and
she never showed up.
Michelle:
No I haven’t seen her since this morning. She sounded like she was in a
bad mood though.
Kiersten:
Really. Well if you see her, tell her to give me a call
Michelle:
Okay, see-ya.
She hangs up the phone and gets back to cleaning.
“You’re going to be waiting for that phone call for ever you little
bitch.” She laughs and we cut to Kiersten and Chris.
Kiersten:
She hasn’t seen her since the morning
Her mom comes walking into the kitchen.
Mom:
Its late guys, I think you need to get some sleep. Chris, you’re
welcome to stay her as well.
Chris:
Thanks
Mom:
Well, that character that was taking pictures of you has vanished. The
cops can’t find him. I don’t know how he got into our house. Here, I
was supposed to get restraining older signed. (She gives it to Kiersten)
Not like it will do much anyway.
Mom:
Great, I will give it to Hicks tomorrow. Come on now, off to bed
Chris and Kiersten walk up to Kiersten’s room.
Chris sits down on the couch. Kiersten is changing into her pajamas.
We can see her changing but all we see is the back of her. She comes
out to where Chris is
Kiersten:
You coming to bed
Chris:
I am going to sleep out here.
Kiersten:
You can come in here to my bed
Chris:
I don’t want to disrespect your parents why they are here. Its kind
enough for them to offer me a place to stay for the night.
Kiersten:
Ok (She is disappointed)
Chris:
I will tuck you in though
That cheers her up. He walks into the room with
Kiersten. She jumps into bed and gets under the covers. Chris pulls up
the covers and tucks her in. As he does he kisses her on the forehead.
Kiersten:
Chris, I’m scared
Chris:
I know. Don’t be. I will not let anybody harm you. I promise
Kiersten:
I love you
Chris:
I love you too
He hugs her and the he leaves the room and lies
down on the couch. The scene ends.
Interior: Kiersten’s House, Next Morning
The scene opens to see Kiersten
sleeping in bed. She slowly opens her eyes and looks around the room.
She gets out of bed and looks out the window. It’s a beautiful day
outside. The camera follows her every move as she turns around and
walks out of her bedroom. Chris is not on the couch, because he is
probably taking a shower. She sits down on the couch, picks up a
magazine, and turns on the TV. The news is on, but she isn’t really
paying attention. They are talking about the weather on the tube.
TV Reporter:
And to restate today’s top story, 19 year old Katie Last Name, has been
brutally murdered last night in the park.
Kiersten looks up from her magazine and turns the
T.V. up louder.
TV Reporter:
Her body was found early this morning by a local resident as he was on
his morning jog. Police have a suspect but they are still looking for a
21 year old college reporter. He has reportedly been stalking Kiersten
Last Name for the past week. They are unable to locate them however.
Kiersten is stunned. Her face has a total blank
stare on it. She has no idea what to think. A tear comes down from her
eyes. Just as she starts to cry Chris comes out of the shower with a
towel on him.
Chris:
Good morning Kierst. Whats wrong
Kiersten:
It’s Katie. (She pauses)
Chris:
What about her?
Kiersten:
She’s, she’s dead
Chris:
What?
Keirsten:
In the park, she’s dead. (She cries and falls into his lap)
Chris looks up at the TV in shock. Come on, let’s
go to my house. Scene ends
Interior: Police Station, Day
We see Detective Hicks going through
some old reports in his office. He gets up and goes over to the filing
cabinet and pulls out another folder. This one is entitled “1981-1982”
cases. He takes it over to his desk, sits down and reads it. He gets
to another newspaper clipping of the accident that left three people
dead by Kiersten’s parents. He picks up the phone and calls a
subordinate. Tells him to get him everything he can on that case. He
hangs up the phone and gets back to the folder.
Interior: Chris’s House, Afternoon
Kiersten is lying on the couch
just staring at the ceiling. Chris comes out of the bathroom and comes
to lie down besides Kiersten on the couch. He plays with her hair a
kisses her on the cheeks. Just then the phone rings. Chris gets up and
goes to the phone on the table. He answers it
Chris:
Hello. (Pauses) Yea, she is here with me. (Pauses) Okay. Bye
Chris comes back to the couch.
Kiersten:
Who was that?
Chris:
It was your Dad. He said they got the restraining order filed. They
are on their way home.
Kiersten:
Okay, I am going to call Michelle, let her know what’s going on
She picks up the phone and dials but there is no
answer at Michelle’s house. She leaves a message.
Kiersten:
She isn’t home. I will try again later.
Chris:
Okay. Want to watch a movie?
Kiersten:
Sure.
Chris goes to the closest and pulls out a movie.
They sit on the couch and watch it. The camera leaves the room and goes
outside the house. We can see that it is getting later in the day. The
scene ends
Interior: Police Station, Early Evening
We see a close up of the
Detective Hicks sign on his office door. He is pacing back and forth
through the room with a phone in his hand. “Yes sir. I know sir.
Listen, I have one dead girl and another girl that is being stalked. I
have a suspect that has disappeared. I can get to the bottom of this
just as soon as you stop chewing out my ass. I will have this bastard
cracked by the end of tomorrow.” He hangs up the phone. “Fuck.” He
opens the door and yells for Dave. A younger guy walks up to him with a
folder.
Dave:
Here you go sir. Here is what you requested.
Hicks:
Thanks
He closes his door and walks through his office
reading the information contained in the folder. As he continues to
read he sees there is a missing child from the family of three that were
killed in the car accident in ’82.
Hicks:
A missing child?
He throws it down and goes to his computer and
starts typing.
Hicks:
Who is this missing kid?
Finally he finds a name. We don’t see it the name
but by the expression on the detectives face, nobody ever thought who is
was.
Hicks:
Shit, I don’t believe it. When did this happen
He goes back to folder that Dave gave him a couple
minutes ago.
Hicks:
The night of September 19, 1982. What is today’s date?
He looks over at his clock on his desk. It says
September 19, 2002.
Hicks:
Holy Mother of God.
He picks up the phone and dials a number.
Kiersten’s mom picks up on the other line.
Mom:
Hello
Hicks:
Hi. This is Detective Hicks
Mom:
Oh hello.
Hicks:
Is your husband there?
Mom:
Yes he is upstairs
Hicks:
Get him and yourself out of there right now.
Mom:
Why?
Hicks:
I know the truth behind your case. It is brought on by
Cut to Kiersten’s mom. She can’t believe what she
is hearing. We don’t get to hear it though. She hears a noise from
the other room.
Mom:
Honey is that you
She turns around but sees nothing. Cut to police
station
Hicks:
Hello? (The phone goes dead) Mrs. ______. Fuck.
He grabs his gun and runs out the door of his
office.
Exterior: Kiersten’s House, Evening
The cop pulls up to Kiersten’s house in
his truck. He gets out and runs to the door. He sees the door is
open. He takes out his gun and slowly proceeds into the house. As he
walks in, he can obviously see that there was some kind of commotion.
The phone is off the hook and he sees some blood on the floor. He
slowly peers around each corner as he goes through the entire house. He
walks upstairs slowly with his gun drawn ready to take on all comers.
As he continues his sweep of the house, he walks back downstairs. He
walks over to the phone which is off the hook. He picks it up and
places it back down on the receiver. As he does that he hears a sound
coming from the next room. He is on his full alert now. He walks over
to the room. He looks around and sees a closet. He goes over to it and
opens the door but he finds nothing. As he turns away from the closet a
dark figure springs at him with full force sending both of them to the
floor. The attacker is lying on top of the detective. The detective
punches him in the face with the backside of his hand. This causes the
assailant to sit up. Hicks' throws him off of him. Hicks scrambles to
his feet and goes over to the assailant. He picks him up and punches
him in the gut. But the attacker throws him into the wall of the
house. He then takes his knife from his pocket and sticks it into the
cop’s chest causing blood to squirt out of his mouth. The attacker
pulls out the knife, and then shoves it into him one more time. He
stands up but leaves the knife in Detective Hicks. Hicks slowly slides
along the wall to the floor. The camera gets a close up of his eyes and
then we see the attacker walk away through Hicks’ eyes as they slowly
close. Hicks is dead. The attacker then goes over to the front door
and opens it. Michelle walks in with a devilish grin on her face.
Michelle:
Go, I will finish up here.
The figure walks past her and out into the
darkness. We then see Michelle go over to the wall with a bag. She
takes out some tacks and some pictures. She starts to put them up on
the wall. The scene ends.
Interior: Chris’ House, Night
The scene opens to find Kiersten on the
phone and Chris in the kitchen drinking a soda. Apparently Kiersten has
been trying to call her parents for the last half hour. Kiersten talks
to herself for her parents to pick up the phone. She slams the phone
down in frustration.
Kiersten:
First the phone was busy, now no one is answering. I’m going
over there.
Chris:
Why?
Kiersten:
Because they could be in trouble!
Chris:
They are probably fine, but I will go with you anyway
They walk downstairs and to their vehicles. But as
soon as they close the door to the house, a man lunges at the two of
them, taking down Chris. Kiersten manages to get out of the way of the
incoming man. Chris is now on the ground with the man holding him to
the ground. He tells Kiersten to run. The man gets away from Chris and
darts down the street. Chris chases after him on foot. Kiersten
watches as the two men go running down the street. She then jumps in
her car and drives off. Cut to two guys chasing each other. The man in
front is jumping over trash cans and bushes as he tries to evade Chris.
Chris running with all his power calls to the guy to get back here. The
chase continues. Both men are starting to get tired now. The attacker
throws a kids bike in the way of Chris but he in unphased by this act.
Chris, thinking what the attacker might do next, turns on slant and sure
enough the attacker turns right at the next intersection. But it’s too
late. Chris jumps the bush and comes down on the attacker. Chris turns
him over and starts punching him. The attacker manages to pull out his
knife but Chris is able to take it away from him. Chris holds the knife
at an attacking angle. He holds it above his head.
Attacker:
Dude, come on now, put the knife down. Its over.
Chris: Your right, it’s over.
He slams the knife into his chest. The scene fades
to black.
Exterior: Kiersten’s House, Night
Kiersten has just arrived back at her
house. She gets out of her car and runs up to the porch. She flies
through the front door screaming Mom and Dad. She sees blood on the
floor of the kitchen. She has a look of a ghost on her face. She walks
upstairs slowly and quietly. She walks up to her room. She is creeping
around like a mouse would; slow but an occasional squeak. As soon as
she gets to the top of the steps she sees it on the wall. The montage
of Kiersten. It contains many pictures and newspaper articles.
Kiersten takes a step back in astonishment, then she walks over to it
and looks at it. She sees pictures when she was younger, to pictures
that were only a few days old. As she is looking at the montage she
looks to the middle where there is a newspaper clipping entitled “Family
of Three Killed in Tragic Car Accident.” We see key words of the
accident but no much. She then looks down to the right and we see a
headline of a missing child found. As she starts to read that, a
footstep is heard from behind her. Kiersten quickly turns around and
sees a masked figure standing behind her with a knife. The masked
figure lunges at her but Kiersten avoids them and the attacker goes
flying into the wall. A moan comes from the attacker as Kiersten lunges
on top of the attacker. She is screaming obscenities into the air.
“I’m tired of this, stop following me, you fucking psycho. She takes a
vase and hits them over the head as they start to get up. The
attacker’s head falls back to the ground. Kiersten sits on top of the
attacker, but notices that long hair is coming out of the attacker’s
mask. The hair looks familiar. She reaches for the mask to take it
off. She gets it about half way off when the attacker grabs her leg and
takes a swipe at her with the knife. Kiersten screams in pain. She
manages to get to her feet and hobble downstairs. She trips and falls
once she gets down the flight of steps. She manages to get back to her
feet and run out of the front door and out to her car. She pulls out
her keys but she drops them in fear. She picks them up and turns around
but the attacker has managed to get right behind her. The attacker
grabs her hair and throws her to the ground. Kiersten then takes a foot
to the face. Blood is running down her face now but she crawls away.
She gets back to her feet and runs a bit but then falls down in utter
exhaustion. She rolls over to lie on her back. She looks up and sees
the attacker walking at her at a relaxed pace. As the masked figure
walks towards her we see them taking the mask of their head. It’s
Michelle, Kiersten’s best friend.
Kiesten:
Michelle? Why, what, you bitch
Michelle:
Ahh, glad to see we still have our sense of humor. Any last words
before you die?
Kiersten:
Hundreds, but, (pauses) how about just one? Why
Michelle:
To tell you the truth girl-friend, I am tired of being your shadow. All
my life I was second to you, and you know what, I am fucking tired of
it. Tonight, you will be runner up to me. How does that sound.
Kiersten:
So, you are behind all this?
Michelle:
Well, not exactly but who cares anyway. You won’t be around to find out
anyway.
Kiersten:
No wait
Michelle:
Sorry girl friend (She takes the knife to an attacking position)
Kiersten puts her hands up to protect herself. The
knife comes close but it stops half way to Kiersten as Michelle drops
the knife and we see a confused look on her face. Blood drips out of
her mouth. She takes her hands to her stomach and then looks at them.
They are covered in blood. She turns around and sees Chris standing
there with a knife. She falls to the ground as Chris stands their in
amusement. No words are exchanged. Kiersten jumps up and hugs Chris.
Kiersten:
Thank god you were here.
Chris:
Yea, good timing huh
Kiersten:
Michelle mentioned something about someone else behind this. Must be
that missing child I saw on that newspaper article.
Chris:
Must be
Kiersten:
So it’s still not over
Chris:
Actually, it is over. (He stabs her through her stomach. She looks up
in astonishment. She can’t believe that Chris was behind this all
along. As she is falling away from him, he says quietly, “I love you.
Her eyes close as she hits the ground. Chris turns and walks away and
we see a newspaper clipping fall on top of Kiersten. It is the article
of the missing child found. The clipping fades to black.
THE END.
